New Traffic Law Designed to Save Lives in Georgia

The “Move Over Law,” also known as the “Spencer Pass Law,” has been updated to include a new group of vehicles.  The Move Over Law requires drivers to literally move over a lane - or slow down below the speed limit and be prepared to stop - when you see an emergency vehicle on the shoulder. Emergency vehicles with yellow, amber or red lights were originally included in the law, and later the law was expanded to include vehicles with white lights.  The addition of emergency vehicles with white lights helps keep utility workers safe.  Drivers caught breaking this law may be fined $500.

Spencer Pass was a HERO driver who was fatally struck by a passing vehicle on I-85 while he was helping a stranded driver.  More details on the Move Over Law can be found here

Drivers are not legally required to move over a lane for vehicles stranded on the shoulder without emergency assistance, but it’s strongly encouraged for everyone’s safety.  If you have been injured by a careless driver, we’re here to help.  Contact us today at 770-389-4864 for a free consultation.
