Do I Really Need a Personal Injury Attorney?

Have you ever been in a car crash? According to car insurance agency statistics, if you are over the age of 34, you have most likely been in some type of car accident at this point in your life. It is estimated that the average driver will be involved in a collision approximately every 17.9 years. Obviously not every car crash leads to serious injury, however, over the years medical bills have been on the rise and the costs of being in an accident can add up quickly, so as a driver, you should know your options if you sustain an injury in a motor vehicle accident.

In order to protect yourself from having outrageous medical bills you should contact a lawyer immediately after your accident. It may seem like an inconvenience to have to take time out of your day, but it will be worth it in the long run. Unfortunately, insurance companies do not want to pay full amounts of damages plus medical bills of other parties involved. They hire attorneys on their end that know the ins and outs of insurance laws and they are hired there to offer the victim the smallest settlement possible and to get the issue resolved. It is not uncommon to hear clients say insurance is taking their time getting things paid or communicating effectively throughout the process. Insurance companies know that the longer they make the victim wait for relief, the more likely the victim is to take the first settlement that is offered, which is often times low-balled.

As an injured party, you want to make sure you have someone on your side with your best interest in mind that possesses the legal knowledge necessary to deal with the insurance companies’ attorneys and get you a fair settlement for your injuries. The attorney will set up an appointment with you to talk to you about the events that took place and determine whether or not you have a case. After the initial consultation, you will have a team made up of your attorney and their skilled paralegal staff handling your case. They will contact the medical facilities you have been treated at to obtain your records and go over your medical history, as well as, stay on top of any changes or correspondence that takes place with the insurance agency and medical facilities. They will also obtain your billings statements for any costs that have been incurred so that they can fight for a fair settlement and determine any future hardship, whether physical or financial, your injury may cause.

After being injured in a car accident, the last thing you want to be dealing with is paperwork with legal jargon you don’t understand and having to fight with a skilled attorney by yourself. Our personal injury team here at Smith, Welch, Webb and White, located in Henry County just off I-75, will make it a priority to learn as much as possible about your case and determine the best compensation for you, all while keeping you involved in the process and maintaining an open line of communication.
