AFFF Firefighting Foam: Mass Tort Lawsuit

Aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) is a foam used to extinguish fires by firefighters, military personnel, and other fire-control occupations. The foam contains chemical surfactants known as perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl (PFAS) that cut off oxygen needed to fuel the fire.

Recent research has linked AFFF foam containing PFAS to various forms of cancer caused by exposure to these dangerous chemicals.

Common AFFF Foam and PFAS-related cancers and damages are:

  • Testicular cancer
  • Kidney Cancer
  • Pancreatic Cancer
  • Bladder Cancer
  • Lymphoma
  • Leukemia
  • Ulcerative Colitis
  • Thyroid Disease
  • And More

These cancers and diseases are typically diagnosed by medical professionals. If you are experiencing any symptoms of illness and have been in contact with AFFF foam, please contact a doctor first. Southside Injury Attorneys cannot determine if you have cancer or a disease.

Health organizations such as the American Cancer Society and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention have issued warnings to those who may have been exposed to the PFAS chemicals in AFFF foam in the last 20 years. Firefighters are the most affected group of patients who have experienced overexposure to PFAS, but it has been found that individuals within proximity to high AFFF foam use have also been affected.

AFFF chemicals have been discovered in water runoff and have contaminated surrounding communities close to military bases, airports, and training areas for fire control exercises. Similar to firefighters, the victims were exposed long term to the AFFF/PFAS chemicals in their water and developed cancers.

AFFF Firefighting Foam Patients’ Options

Product liability lawsuits have been filed against various AFFF Foam manufacturers on behalf of firefighters and all victims exposed to AFFF/PFAS long-term. Plaintiffs are seeking to hold these companies liable for the damages they have caused for not provided proper safety information when using their products. Mass litigation continues against AFFF foam as more information is discovered in every individuals’ case.
