Belviq: Mass Tort Lawsuit
Belviq, also known as lorcaserin, is a commonly prescribed weight loss and control supplement prescribed to patients struggling with high blood pressure and diabetes. In February of 2020, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that all Belviq products be removed from stores’ shelves as studies had shown a potential cancer link.
Eisai Inc., the manufacturer of Belviq and Belviq XR, complied with the administration’s request, but claimed their initial research on the drug did not reflect the same results as the FDA’s research that indicated potential danger. The FDA found that a higher percentage of patients taking Belviq developed a form of cancer compared to those who did not in a five year study.
Common Belviq-related cancers are:
- Lung Cancer
- Pancreatic Cancer
- Colon Cancer
- And More
Cancers and illnesses are typically diagnosed by medical professionals. If you are experiencing any symptoms of illness and have used Belviq, please contact a doctor first. Southside Injury Attorneys cannot determine if you have health issues caused by Belviq.
The cause of the development of cancer in Belviq users is still unknown. However, the risks of taking the drug outweigh the benefits and is not recommended for use.
Belviq Users’ Options
Belviq lawsuits are still in the early stages as more victims come forward and new research is conducted. Belviq users must have developed a form of lung, colon, or pancreatic cancer with no genetic history of cancer. To file a lawsuit, victims must have also developed the cancer within seven years of taking Belviq.
