Juul: Mass Tort Lawsuit

JUUL is the most popular brand of e-cigarette, also known as vapes, that are sold through nicotine pods. The device heats flavored pods that contain high concentrates of nicotine and other chemicals and then the liquid concentrate is exhaled as vapor. JUUL is one of the largest contributors to the “e-cigarette epidemic among youth” according to the U.S. Surgeon General, and over 800 JUUL lawsuits have been filed to date.

JUUL faces lawsuits ranging from marketing to the youth as their primary consumers to knowingly selling over 1 million contaminated pods. The high concentrates of nicotine and vitamin E acetate, the thickening agent in the liquid concentrates, have led to lung damage, seizures, addiction, and other damages.

Common JUUL and e-cigarette-related damages are:

  • Nicotine Addiction
  • Bronchiolitis
  • Popcorn Lung
  • Lung Disease
  • Seizures
  • Strokes
  • Blood Clots
  • Heart Issues and Disease
  • Higher Inflammation
  • Weakened Immune System

Lung damage and illnesses are typically diagnosed by medical professionals. If you are experiencing any symptoms of illness and have used JUUL, please contact a doctor first. Southside Injury Attorneys cannot determine if you have health issues caused by JUUL.

Health organizations such as the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are still studying the short and long-term affects that JUUL has on both the youth and adults. There is little knowledge of the health consequences of using JUULs, but current research shows there are strong possibilities of contributing to cancers, other illnesses, and even DNA mutations. While many believe e-cigarettes are a safer alternative to traditional cigarettes, the CDC and state governments are advising against and prohibiting the use of JUUL and e-cigarettes.

Altria Group Inc., the manufacturer of JUUL, faces lawsuits primarily from the parents of younger teenagers and adults. Since 2010, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has reported hundreds of cases where young teens and adults suffered from seizures and neurological damage due to nicotine toxicity.

An experienced attorney will help  navigate proving the injuries were caused by JUUL with the help of medical records and documentation of how often the victim vaped, what kind of device was used, and how the victim’s conditions worsened during the period of use.
